hoto Contest 2024: After three years, the top prize remains home

6. 8. 2025 - Roman Ordelt

On the occasion of the 53rd Barum Czech Rally Zlín 2024, the traditional photo competition was announced. In the previous three years, the main prize always went abroad, but this time the author of the best picture was Tomáš Brázdil from Otrokovice. The prizes for the photo contest were donated by RALLYMODELS - Antonín Babík, JNK Studio Zlín - the most experienced rally video studio in the Czech Republic and ALITRON CZ, s.r.o. prepared for the winners a year-long subscription to the specialized motoring magazine RALLY.

Auto club Barum Zlín in cooperation with the agency ZLIN PRESS production announced a photo contest in a joint category for professional photojournalists and amateurs in a single category of digital photography.

The expert jury consisting of Miloslav Regner (Chairman of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín Organizing Committee), Ing. Jan Regner (Clerk of the Course of Barum Czech Rally Zlín), Roman Ordelt (owner of ZLIN PRESS production) and representatives of the international jury awarded five more prizes in addition to three financial ones.

„After previous years of fasting, the Czech representatives took all three main prizes, which made us very happy. Professional motoring photographers are increasingly making their mark on the top positions. We are pleased that the photo competition has a steadily rising level. Every year we are pleasantly surprised by the high number of participating photographers from many European countries. We have a positive news for all the participants of the photo contest this year, as we have doubled the financial rewards," said Ing. Jan Regner, Clerk of the Course of Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

The imaginary medal podium in last year's photo competition was taken exclusively by photographers from the Zlín region. The first two places remained home, because the winner Tomáš Brázdil and Pavel Pumprla live in Otrokovice. The third place went to Zuzana Rexová from Vlčková, a village where racing cars regularly roar during the Barum rally. This year the longest stage called Podhoran runs through this village in the valley of the Hostýn Hills. Foreign photographers came up empty this time and did not follow the previous winners. In 2023, Jörg Ullmann from Germany won, the year before Gábor Sándor Nagy from Hungary and in 2021 Rafal Roguski from Poland enjoyed the top prize. The first prize has gone abroad a total of six times in the history of the photo competition.

The ten-member international jury was again made up of drivers, co-drivers or people from the rally community. The jury members were Pawel Kajzar (Poland) - team manager, Jeannette Kvick (Denmark) - co-driver, Kevin Lempu (Estonia) - driver, Gianluca Nataloni (Italy) - journalist, Barbora Rendlová (Czech Republic) - co-driver, Jonas Schmitz (Luxembourg) - co-driver, Corentin Silvestre (France) - co-driver, Yohan Surroca (Switzerland) - driver, Takumi Takahashi (Japan) - co-driver, Rally Japan official and Jan Talaš (Czech Republic) - driver.

The photo competition at the Barum rally has a very positive response among motorsport fans every year, with the level of the photos submitted increasing steadily. This is evidenced by the great interest of the participants, as a total of 1,459 images were submitted from 317 authors in last year's photo competition. In addition to the three main prizes, the jury awarded five other prizes to comply with the contest rules.
