The victory in the photo contest goes abroad again

31. 7. 2023 - Roman ORDELT

On the occasion of last year's 51st edition of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín 2022, a traditional photo competition was announced. The main prize goes abroad again, this time the international jury awarded the photo of a photographer from Hungary, when the winner was Gábor Sándor Nagy from Miskolc. The prizes for the photo contest were donated by RALLYMODELS - Antonín Babík, JNK Studio Zlín - the most experienced rally video studio in the Czech Republic and ALITRON CZ, s.r.o. who prepared a year-long subscription to the specialized motoring magazine RALLY for the winners.

Auto club Barum Zlín in cooperation with ZLIN PRESS production agency announced a photo contest in a joint category for professional photojournalists and amateurs in a single category of digital photography. The expert jury consisting of Miloslav Regner (Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Barum Czech Rally Zlín), Ing. Jan Regner (Clerk of the Course of Barum Czech Rally Zlín), Roman Ordelt (owner of ZLIN PRESS production) and representatives of the international jury awarded five other prizes in addition to three financial prizes.

"The interest in the photo competition has once again exceeded our expectations. This is demonstrated by the record numbers, with over three hundred photographers from all over Europe taking part in the competition. We are really delighted with the continuously increasing interest of the entries, which shows the popularity of Barum rally. The international jury, made up of a number of personalities from the rally community, does not have it easy each year, and that was confirmed this year again. Photographers from abroad regularly take part in the photo competition and judging by the results of recent years, they are doing very well. I believe that the Czech photographers will not be embarrassed this time and the first place for this year's edition will stay at home," said Miloslav Regner, chairman of the jury and head of the organizing committee of Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

Foreign photographers have once again stolen the march on the local authors, as the best image of the jubilee's 50th edition of Barum rally 2021 came from Rafał Roguski from Poland. Before that, the first place went abroad in 2017, when another Polish photographer, Marcin Rybak from Łódź, defended his title from the previous year. Hungary has celebrated twice in the past, with Gergély Makai from Budapest winning the photo contest in 2013 and 2014.

The ten-member international jury was again composed of photographers, drivers, co-drivers or other people from the rally environment. The jury members were Dalibor Benych (Czech Republic), Victor Cartier (France), Tsung-Yu Hsieh (Taiwan), Michal Knedla (Czech Republic), Francesca Maior (Romania), David Moynihan (Great Britain), Kauri Pannas (Estonia), Dennis Rådström (Sweden), Patrice Spitalier (Mexico) and Julia Thulin (Sweden).

The photo contest at the Barum rally has a very positive response and popularity among motorsport fans every year, and the level of the photos submitted continues to increase. This is also reflected in the ever-increasing interest of the participants, as last year's photo competition received a total of 1,396 entries from 319 authors. In addition to the three main prizes, the jury awarded five other prizes as stated in the regulations.
