Tomáš Pospíšilík going for the top ten

11. 8. 2019 - Petr Komárek

The 49th edition of Barum Czech Rally Zlín, a competition included in the eight-part series of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), is almost imminent. Tomáš Pospíšilík and his experienced co-driver Jiří Hovorka on Škoda Fabia R5 are featuring for the sixth time on Barum Rally. Except for this year, the 25-year-old rider has a license from the BTH Import Stal Rally Team. He wants to finally break into the top ten in the absolute ranking.

Autocross was Tomáš Pospíšilík's first experience behind the wheel. He did very well winning many races both on the national and the European Championship. In 2014 he switched to rally competitions. "Now I want to improve in the AWD cockpit. The Fabia R5 that I'm currently driving is a top-class racing car. I have to learn how to do a better job. From the perspective of a pilot, it offers an almost unlimited number of possibilities. I'm often surprised by that. This year we have made new improvements to the car, and with each race home and away we gain new and new experiences," said Pospíšilík at a press conference of Zlín organizers at Continental Barum headquarters in Otrokovice.

Unfortunately, this season did not start well for this young rider from Hrobice. An accident stopped him during Wallachian Rally. "We came there with an improved car, and this change suited us. On some sections, we were fast, and our times said so too. Sadly, we came across some gravel. I still don't know how it got there. But others struggled too. Regrettably, we paid for being ahead a lot," commented Pospíšilík. "The crash cost us a lot of money, and we had to change plans for this season," he added.

Last year Pospíšilík reached 13th place overall in the Barum Rally and was the fifth Czech best pilot. "I hope the weather will be better this year. Last time the weather bothered us a lot, which was also apparent in the high number of retired cars. This year I'm a driver under a new flag. It's a new team, new mechanics, new experience. I want to get to the top ten," revealed the driver who also features in the ERC1 Junior classification.
