Barum Czech Rally Zlín is a long-term traditional rally that will run to its 41
st edition in this year. The rally sport is an extremely popular sporting line in the Czech Republic. This is expressed every year by thousands of enthusiastic fans standing along the route of special stages! Barum Czech Rally Zlín is held in area around the Moravian town of Zlín. Since 1983 it has been a part of European Rally Championship and since 2007 also a part of brand new series Intercontinental Rally Challenge covered with the considerable medial support of satellite television Eurosport. With entering this championship, the rally did great step forward and in previous year offered the best starting field in its history – there was 27 Super 2000 cars, which meant an unofficial world record in number of these cars entering particular rally. In 2010, Barum Czech Rally Zlín was won for the second time by Belgians Freddy Loix and Frédéric Miclotte with factory-prepared Škoda Fabia S2000. Czech manufacturer celebrated the overall top three and recapitulaed similar success from 1983, when the rally was ruled by Škoda 130 RS cars.
Barum Czech Rally Zlín event has a long-standing partner, a tyre company Barum. This advantageous connection between the most prosperous domestic name of tyres and the most prestigious Czech automobile competition supports the positive response for the tyres-producer trademark as well as for the rally itself. During the years, the event got to the top of Czech motorsport scene and year by year has been bringing new features and innovations to the field of automobile rallying in this country. Based on good FIA Observer’s reports, the FIA World Rally Commission has also again ranged Barum Czech Rally Zlín among the top European Championship rallies. A significant attention to the rally is also evident from the part of journalists. 306 publicists from 17 countries were accredited last year (87 TV and radio studios, 103 journalists, 116 photographers).
The rally headquarters as well as the start and the finish are situated in regional town Zlín. Start of Barum Czech Rally Zlín will be preceded by scrutineering with presence of public held on 25th August in the evening in sportshall Euronics in Zlín. The shakedown will take place on 26th August in the morning close to Otrokovice. The same day in the evening the presentation of top drivers and codrivers will be organized, followed with ceremonial start and opening superspecial stage running through the streets of Zlín. But the main part of the competition will go on in two weekend days (27th and 28th August).
Barum Czech Rally Zlín includes about 260 km of special stages covered with various types of tarmac. The farthest place from the rally center is only 50 km. Zlín is located in the valley, surrounded by wooden hills offering splended scenery and diverse landscape. Moravian regional town Zlín is about 300 km east from the capital Prague and about 200 km north from Austrian capital Vienna.
