Like in previous years, also in 2011 the famous Barum Czech Rally Zlin will host an additional race of historical rally cars called Star Rally Historic. Barum Czech Rally Zlín itself will be run for 41st time, so this long tradition will emphasize the role of Star Rally Historic as a straight connection to the long and rich history of rallying in Zlín and its roots.
Star Rally Historic is a showcase of historical rally cars running along the special stages which are identical to those used during international Barum Czech Rally Zlín. During previous editions, there was always very wide variety of cars from small Škodas, which wrote the history of Czech rallysport in seventies, to Audi Quattros forming the world rallies more than 25 years ago.
Star Rally Historic is very specific event with big involvement of rally fans and spectators at the rally tracks. Competitors with their historical rally cars are not running against clock, but they should do the best show and performance for the people, which will be watched and classified by special committe.
Star Rally Historic is organized mainly as a demonstration drive, so either the original historical cars or their replicas are eligible to enter the event. The appearance of the car has to correspond fully with the contemporary original and to act as a representative of the history of motorsport. Cars produced later than in 1990 are allowed to take part only if they were built like original rally car. For the security, cars have to be equipped with safety belts, crew have to wear protective helmets and fireproof overalls when driving on the special stages.
Competitors will run on the same special stages used also at international BCRZ race, usually between the first and second run if international BCRZ starting field. Stages for Star Rally Historic measure c. 90 kilometers in length and they contain various types of tarmac. Barum Czech Rally Zlín is every year visited by more than 200 000 enthusiastic spectators, who are looking forward to see great action with present rally cars as well as legendary machines from the past.
Program of the Star Rally Historic begins on Friday with scrutineering in front of public at the biggest square in the city of Zlín. On Friday evening, Star Rally Historic opens the whole racing weekend as the field of historical cars run as first on the marvelous Special Stage placed in centre of Zlín city. And during Saturday, Star Rally Historic competitors do the special stages in the forests and fields around the region of Zlín.
This region is located in the eastern part of The Czech Republic. The city of Zlín as the centre of the rally is about 300 km far from the Czech capital Prague and 200 km from Austrian metropolis of Vienna..
